Applications invited for Clean and Beautiful City Appreciation Awards

Torontonians are invited to submit their applications for the Clean and Beautiful City Appreciation Award. The Award program was developed to identify and celebrate outstanding contributions to the Clean and Beautiful City initiative made by city residents, community groups and businesses. Applicants for the Award must meet eligibility requirements and demonstrate how their activity or project improved the cleanliness and/or beauty of the city.

The Clean and Beautiful City Initiative has been under way for over a year now with many individuals and organizations involved in a wide variety of programs and projects. A key element contributing to the success of the initiative has been public awareness and commitment. Many local projects, such as the Neighbourhood Beautification Project, are making a difference to Toronto's cleanliness and beauty.

An Appreciation Award application package, including eligibility criteria, is available from local ward councillors or can be printed from the City's Web site www.toronto.ca/cleanandbeautiful.

Applications must be submitted to ward councillors' offices no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, September 12. Each councillor is responsible for reviewing applications to ensure they meet the selection criteria, and then selecting a maximum of four award recipients for each ward.

Award recipients will have photos of their project displayed at Civic Centres and be recognized at the October Community Council meetings where they will be presented with the Clean and Beautiful City Appreciation Award. Mayor David Miller and City councillors will also host a Clean and Beautiful City celebration in November.
