Be the Voice of Your Neighbourhood: Join the RTCC Board

The Ralph Thornton Community Centre is more than just a building; it is the shared living room of our community.

It is a place where connections are made, support is found, and our neighbourhood comes to life. But great spaces don’t happen by accident. They thrive because people like you care enough to safeguard them. We are inviting you to join the Board of Management to ensure this space remains a vibrant, welcoming resource for everyone who walks through our doors.

Neighbours Serving Neighbours

What makes the RTCC unique is that we are truly neighbours serving neighbours.

Our Board is comprised almost entirely of people who live right here in the catchment area. When you join, you aren’t just attending meetings; you are teaming up with fellow residents to serve the streets you walk every day. This local leadership ensures that the Centre is never out of touch. Instead, it allows us to offer oversight that is deeply personal and tailored to the real, immediate needs of our specific neighbourhood.

You Don’t Need to Be an Expert to Be a Leader

Many people hesitate to apply because they think a “Board” requires decades of corporate experience. That isn’t us.

While we value professional skills in Fundraising, Finance, and Law, our greatest asset is the Lived Experience of our neighbours. We are looking for people who know what this community needs because they live it.

  1. We welcome: Passionate community builders, past RTCC users, and individuals familiar with our programs.
  2. We Prioritize: Voices that reflect our diversity, especially from the Chinese, Black, and South Asian communities.
  3. We Focus On: Applicants living in our catchment area (Broadview to Coxwell/Emdaabiimok, Danforth to Lake Shore).
What You Gain (The Benefits of Service)

Joining the Board is a commitment, but it gives back as much as you put in.

  • Real Impact: See your ideas shape the programs and services that support your neighbours.
  • Deep Connection: Build meaningful relationships with passionate locals you might otherwise never meet.
  • Professional Growth: Gain valuable experience in non-profit governance, strategic planning, and community leadership.Lived Experience within various communities
